The British senior team, made up of ten players aged 12 to 18, defeated competition from Spain, Sweden and Denmark to beat Slovenia in Sunday’s final on penalties.
The junior team, aged six to 12, achieved fifth place. This was the first time a British team has entered the competition.
"An unbelieveable experience"
Ryan Swift, 14, from Lancashire, was one of the 20 kids picked by JDRF to play at the tournament in Geneva, Switzerland. He said: “I had an amazing time during the weekend in Switzerland. I loved every minute from the football to the organised evening events. It was an unbelievable experience and one I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Mum Julie, who accompanied Ryan on the trip, said: “We had a fantastic weekend. It was well organised, took place in a beautiful setting and the members of staff from JDRF, Medtronic and the diabetes care team were very friendly.
“It was a once in a life time experience.”
How many took part?
In total, 160 kids from eight different countries, all of whom live with type 1 diabetes, took part in the tournament.
